Kingdom of Ash is enormous and it earns every page. The opening is brutal — genuinely difficult reading — and the recovery from it is the best writing in the series.
Every character gets their moment. Manon, Lysandra, Elide, Dorian, Chaol, Nesryn, Aedion, Rowan, all of them. Threads laid down in a novella collection five books ago come back and land. The final act is chaos in the best way, and I cried more than once.
Five stars. As a conclusion to an eight book series it is remarkably generous — nobody is forgotten, nothing is hand waved.
