Silent Patient

Well now, pull up a chair, grab a cuppa, and let's chat about Alex Michaelides' The Silent Patient. I'd heard a fair bit of buzz about this one, so naturally, I was curious to dive in.

From the off, I found myself trying to get my bearings with the story. There were moments, I must admit, when I felt a bit lost, trying to piece together what was happening. It wasn't always the easiest read to settle into, and I had to re-read a few bits to make sure I was following along properly. Sometimes the narrative felt a little elusive, almost like trying to catch smoke, you know? It took a bit of effort on my part to truly grasp the unfolding events.

However, I do have to say, despite those instances where I was scratching my head, the book did hold my attention enough to keep me turning the pages. It wasn't a completely smooth ride for me, but there was certainly something compelling lurking beneath the surface that urged me onwards. It felt like I was being led down a winding path, and while the scenery wasn't always clear, I had a feeling there'd be something significant at the end of it all.

But oh, that ending! I genuinely did not see what was coming at all. The way everything clicked into place in the final moments really made all the earlier confusion worth it. It was such a brilliant reveal, completely blindsiding me. I truly wasn't expecting what came to pass, and it left me quite stunned.

Overall, it was a rather perplexing experience for a good portion of the read, but I'm glad I persevered. It wasn't a five-star read for me, nor even a four-star, but it definitely had its moments that elevated it beyond a middling score.
