Everyone tells you to skip Tower of Dawn. Do not skip Tower of Dawn.

Chaol in Antica is a completely different reading experience — quiet, interior, focused on a man learning to live in a body that has changed. Yrene Towers is wonderful, and the two of them together are the most grown up relationship in the series.

It is slow, and if you are coming straight off the end of Empire of Storms the change of gear is jarring. Four stars for that alone. But the Nesryn and rukhin material and the Valg history uncovered here are essential for the finale.
